Why are they called Chapter 8

“Chapter 8” refers to the UK Department for Transport’s *Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 8*, which provides guidance on road traffic management and safety signage.
Section U4.3 covers vehicle conspicuity markings, including when they are required on high-speed roads, the red and yellow chevron design standards, reflectivity requirements, and rules for placement on vehicle rears, doors, edges, and guardrails.

Law Requirement:

Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual sets out the safety requirements for vehicles operating on public highways. This includes the use of high-visibility reflective chevron markings, usually red and fluorescent yellow, on the rear of vehicles to maximise visibility in both daytime and nighttime conditions.
